DIY ALERT: GALAXY ORNAMENTS

Galaxy ornaments. Need we say more?
*Cue the applause*

Decorating your home for the holidays is always so much fun but decorating your home with personalized, hand made decorations is even better!

Plus, they make super cute gifts!

Here's what you'll need to get your DIY on:

-Pledge Floor Care
- Glitter
- Clear ornaments

Step 1:

Remove the top of the ornament and pour just a little bit of Pledge inside.
(Just enough to coat the inside.)

Step 2:

Swish the Pledge around.

Step 3:

Pour any extra Pledge back into the bottle.

Step 4:

Add glitter!
You can shake it around or shuffle it. The opportunities are endless and each one will surely be unique!

Taa-daa! So perfect on a tree or a mantle!

This has us thinking...ornaments filled with jewelry would be pretty awesome too...

DIY ALERT: RAINBOW SNEAKS

Saying goodbye to the Thanksgiving festivities can only mean one thing...
It's time to start thinking Halloween. ASAP!
While choosing a costume might be tricky (stay tuned for our not so tricky DIY outfits) one thing is for sure...a costume is never complete without great shoes!

Whether the plan is to dress up as a unicorn, a princess, or may we even suggest a full on rainbow (!!), these shoes will look fab on Oct 31st (or any day of the year, really!)

Here's what you need to get your DIY on:

-A pair of white sneakers
- Paint in all the colors of the rainbow (we used a mix of arylic and fabric paint)
-White paint
-Glitter paint or glue
- A paint brush or a sponge
-Painters tape or duct tape
- Cups (or anything to mix paint in)
-Scissors

Step 1:

Remove the shoelaces. We're gonna keep these nice and white!

Step 2:

Cover the soles and toes of your shoes with tape. We're gonna keep them nice and white too!

Step 3 (optional):

Measure the length of your shoe and determine how many inches you want to allocate to each color.
Our shoe was about 8 inches long (excluding the toe!) and we left about 1 inch per color.
Or, just wing it as you go!

Step 4:

Mix a good amount of white paint with just a few drops of color. The idea is to make pastels, so you don't need many drops of color vs the amount of white paint.

The colors should look like this when you're done!
(Depending on how saturated you want them of course!)

Step 5:

Time to start painting! We started out by applying the paint with a brush, but found it easier to use a sponge. It made it so much easier to blend the colors in a 'gradient' way.  Cutting your sponge into 7 pieces (1 for each color) is not only frugal, but the smaller pieces allow for more precision!

For full coverage, we recommend a second layer of paint.

Step 6:

When your shoes are completely painted (and looking fabulous), remove the tape and glitter those toes!
If you use glitter glue (like we did), make sure to give yourself ample drying time. (Overnight is best.)

Taa-daa! Now you've got yourself a pair of one of a kind rainbow sneakers!

DIY Alert: Pumpkin Candles

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and while you may not want to offer to cook the turkey, that doesn't  mean you can't contribute to dinner!
Surprise your friends and family with a DIY centrepiece that is just as fab as your outfit!

Here's what you need to get your DIY on:

- A small pumpkin/squash
- Candle wicks
- Candle making wax
- A heatproof glass jar (a Mason Jar or a glass measuring cup is perfect.)
- Tools to cut and empty your pumpkin (a knife and spoon work too!)

Step 1:

Cut the top off your pumpkin and empty it out. Make sure to get as much goop out as possible!
You may want to keep the pumpkin seeds for toasting. YUM!

Step 2:

Fill up a Mason Jar (or a glass measuring cup) with the Candle Making Wax.

Step 3:

Bring a small pot of water to a boil and place the glass jar with the wax inside into the pot.  This will melt the wax without ruining your Mom's good pots.

*If you'd like your candles to be scented, now is the time to add a couple drops of yummy smelling scented oils like vanilla or cinnamon.

Step 4:

When the wax is completely melted, remove it (carefully!) from the pot.

Step 5:

Place a wick inside your pumpkin. I found it helpful to use a little dab of super glue to keep it in place.
Then carefully pour the melted wax inside. To speed up the cooling process, place your pumpkin in the fridge or just leave it out on the counter over night.

Step 6:

Collect leaves, twigs, pine cones etc..and voila! A super cute, festive DIY that is sure to get you off the hook for not helping with the actual meal prep!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

What to wear this thanksgiving

We've got many reasons to be thankful, and having an awesome stylist here at the Ardene Head Office is just one of them! She put together two looks to take you from dinner with the fam to a party with friends this Thanksgiving.

Her advice? "Dress it down for dinner but still look put together in an oversized knit sweater which is 'très cool' right now. Stretchy pants are pretty key if you plan on eating a full course turkey dinner and a scarf is the perfect accessory for a post-meal walk.'

"For a party with friends, you want to be comfortable and ready for wherever the night may take you. Our leopard print midi is super stretchy and so versatile. Paired with a lightweight knit sweater and a varsity jacket for added edge, people will be more interested in your ootd than the festivities!"
