DIY Alert: Sea Salt Hair Spray

Fool your friends into thinking you've spent the entire day at the beach with this DIY sea salt hair spray!

This recipe gives your hair that carefree, beachy, waviness that you get after a day in the sun and the sea! Best part? We've added a sweet smelling ingredient that not only smells amazing, but nourishes your hair to counteract the drying effects of salt water.

What you'll need:

-Coconut Oil
-Fine Sea Salt
-1 cup of hot water
-1 teaspoon
-1 spray bottle

Step 1:

Fill the spray bottle with 1 cup of hot water.
*Depending on how big your bottle is, you may want to double this recipe.

Step 2:

Add 1 teaspoon of sea salt (per 1 cup of water). Shake the bottle and let it dissolve.

Step 3:

Add 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil (per 1 cup of water).
*You want the water in your spray bottle to be hot so that the coconut oil dissolves properly. You can always melt down the coconut oil prior to adding it in.

This is the key ingredient that smells amazing, and is so good for your hair! Be careful not to add too much - it can make your hair look greasy.

Step 4:

If your hair doesn't tend to wave/curl naturally or hold curls well, you may want to add 1/2 teaspoon of hair gel to the mix just to be sure your waves stick around all day.

Step 5:

Screw the lid on the bottle, and shake it well.
Spray it on to damp or dry hair and scrunch your hair from your tips up to your roots.

Pick out the perfect "beach ready" outfit, and no one will ever know you've spent an entire day in the city!

Blogger Crush of the Moment!

Have you met Claire of The Claire Closet yet? If you haven’t, you probably should!

We fell in love with Claire back when we first discovered the way she styled our accessories and clothing. Scarves as hair accessories. Hair bows as bow ties. Headbands as bracelets.
We were feeling pretty inspired by her creativity, passion, and her oh-so apparent love for fashion!

As we dug a little deeper into The Claire Closet, we discovered that there is a lot more to this girl than just an incredible sense of style and the most lovely long blond locks.

Claire has dedicated so much of herself to helping girls feel comfortable and confident in their  clothing choices (hello, amazing!) through fashion shows, workshops and even teaching a fashion class in her hometown. She preaches what she practiced growing up (which you can read more about here) that “dollars will never go as far as imagination can, and the results will never be as rewarding.” In addition, she truly believes in the importance of expressing yourself through fashion. Translation: wear what YOU want to wear and what makes YOU feel good.

What others think doesn’t matter because they’re simply pursuing their own sense of style!

As you can imagine, our blogger crush blew up ten fold! We are beyond flattered that Ardene was one of Claire’s go to stores and that we allowed her to pursue a world of accessorizing & styling! After all, that’s what we’re all about! Dressing yourself from head to toe in trendy, affordable pieces that make you want to scream at the top of your lungs (like Claire probably did!) I <3 MY STYLE!

Such a fabulous inspiration! Thanks for sharing your story with us girlie J

DIY: Mothers Day

In celebration of Mother’s day, our DIY team decided to get creative and make a one of a kind gift for Mom. A handbag with personalized images and notes! So cute, right?

*This method can be done with any sort of fabric, but we opted for an Ardene canvas bag.

Here's what you'll need to get your DIY on:

-A handbag. From Ardene of course!

-1 medium sized paint brush

- Photos of you and your mom, magazine clippings etc ...

-Spray bottle filled with water

Step 1:

Cut images from magazines or print photos from your computer.
(Psst: You might want to include some pics of you and your mom! Awww.)

*NOTE: All images will be flipped when you transfer them later on in the process, so avoid letters or words. Trust us!

Step 2:

Apply a thick coat of liquitex to the printed side of the image.

Step 3:

Flip the images over and stick them face down (adhering to the bag).
Press firmly and allow to completely dry. We recommend 24 hours ;)

Step 4:

Flash forward to tomorrow - the bag is dry! Now, spritz the paper with your spray bottle to lightly coat the images with water.

Step 5:

Use your fingers to gently rub the paper off, and voila the image will be transferred to the bag! *

*Note: this process is a bit messy; some of the image may rub off slightly as you remove the paper but that's all part of the DIY game. It looks pretty fab either way!

Step 6:

Use another light coat of liquitex over the images to really seal them in, and let it dry for 1 hour.

Step 7:

Now doodle away! Write her a little note or tell her you love her! Whatever you want, really!

A super cute, easy DIY for Mom this Mothers Day!
