HOW TO: BE A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN CITY – CANADIAN EDITION

If you live in Canadian city, chances are your hometown is actually really cool. You might not know it, but Canadian cities are internationally known for their fests, their art, and their food.

That’s why you should go on an adventure as a tourist in your own city.

Think about it - you’ll be exploring, you’ll see cool stuff, and you’ll end up with cool pics.

We chose 4 Canadian cities we love. Here’s how to be a tourist in all of them this summer:

VANCOUVER

More Vancouver

TORONTO

More Toronto

MONTREAL

More Montreal

HALIFAX

More Halifax

DIY: CANADIAN FLAG DISTRESSED DENIM SHORTS

We think denim is the perfect DIY-able item out there RN, and for good reason. We love personalized stuff, and we know you do too.

That’s why we’ve put together a super easy denim DIY in honor of Canada Day. We’re patriotic like that.

It’ll take you 20 minutes tops. And after Canada Day, you can revert your shorts back to normal, and slay in distressed denim for the rest of the season.

What You’ll Need:
Denim Shorts or Jeans
4 X 6 Inch Mini Flag
Chalk
Scissors
Pliers or tweezers
Needle and thread
Washing machine

1. Turn your denim inside out. Measure your flag and cut it to match the shape of the pocket.

2. Sew!
Make sure the flag is on the side of the pocket that shows through the front of the denim.

3. Using chalk, mark your denim where you want the distress marks to be.
(You can start with denim that already has some distress marks, like we did. Or you can start from scratch!)

We added extra to really make the flag pop out.

4. Cut along your chalk line.

5.  After you've made a cut, you'll notice that the blue threads in your denim point down, and the white threads are horizontal. Using your tweezers, loosen the white threads a bit. Then, completely rip out out some blue threads to widen the rip.

7.  Throw your denim in the washer and dryer for a more worn-in look.

8.  Wear them on Canada Day and share your DIY with us on Insta #ardenelove

Happy Canada Day!

MUSIC MONDAY: CANADIAN INDIE BAND CRUSHES

We Canadians know how to jam, and we have indie artists slaying from one end of this country to the other.

Whether you're into folky, downtempo electro, garage pop-rock, or the things in between, here are the Canadian indie bands we’re crushing on RN.

These tracks are sure to give you all the patriotic feels, and you’ll be ready to rep your Canadian roots on Canada Day weekend.

THE WET SECRETS

If you want indie rock with an attitude, The Wet Secrets will be your new fave. They’re from Edmonton, Alberta, and they released a new album, “The Tyranny of Objects,” back in the spring. We’re loving the song, I Can Swing a Hammer, and the music video is pretty lit too.

ALEXANDRIA MAILLOT
Based out of Vancouver, BC, Alexandria Maillot debuted in 2012 with her Ep “Just Another Girl.”  She just released an awesome new single, called Sunday Sara, and we’re loving it.

TWIN RIVER
We really like these guys. They just dropped a new garage-pop album called “Passing Shade," and it’s full of amazing tunes. They’re based out of Montreal, Quebec and Vancouver, BC, and you should check them out.

TIPS ON THROWING THE PERFECT POOL PARTY

Obviously the sun is out and we've got #poolgoals. Plus, June and July have a few festive long-weekends, so it's time to start tanning planning.

If you want a hella good time (and the most instagrammable party ever), here you go:

START BY BLOWING IT UP.

ICYMI, inflatable pool floats are a huge trend this summer, and we hope it stays that way.

At night, crack some glowsticks and put them inside balloons. Your pool will look lit... literally.

BLAST GOOD VIBES.

No pool party is complete without some sweet summer jams. Check out our June Love playlist over on our Spotify!

REMEMBER TO HYDRATE.

If water's not your thing, make a tropical inspired juice:

1 cup of watermelon, blended
1 cup lemonade
Splash of sparkling water
Mix!

HOW TO DRESS: À LA FRANÇAISE

French-girl style is about french-girl attitude. Sure, we love the perfectly selected basics and accessories, but we really have the feels for the laisser-faire vibe.

Obviously, we know a thing or two about French (and French Canadian) style around here. After all, Ardene is a native Montreal brand.

Slay like a true French girl as you eat your croissant, drink your coffee, and take a looong walk. ðŸ‘‡

stripes + black and white + coffee = oui.

Up your basics game and accessorize with french classics like oxfords, shades, and pearls.

BLACK LEATHER OXFORDS

Love your neutral tones and don't forget the pastries.

Personally, we think a black maxi is perfect for a long summer walk. Wear flats if you're actually going for a walk IRL.

Ok, French-girl style is a bit about the frills too.

Florals, whites, navy, and tan are another take on basics that go beyond black and white. Throw on a scarf and go.

Let's make this Music Monday a "Lundi Musical" in honor of Quebec's National Holiday; La Saint-Jean Baptiste! The Saint-Jean is celebrated every year on June 24th where fireworks, great food and dancing is on the menu. So if you like good music, poutine, and partying from day to night, this might be your new fave holiday.

***

The french music scene has loads of undiscovered talent that you're likely missing out on.  So whether or not you're from Quebec (which Ardene is ICYMI), turn up your volume, throw on some blue and white, and enjoy these home-grown jams.

 ðŸ‘‡

 Happy St-Jean everyone!
